Are you expecting a new little one in the new year? Struggling with name suggestions? 

Choosing a name can feel like a big commitment and there are lots of things to ask yourself... 

Should you keep it classic? Trendy? Popular? Or something unique?

We’ve done a bit of background work for you and have pulled together the top names destined to get more popular in 2020 and beyond…



Trending names

For 2019, we saw Liam and Emma topping the charts in terms of baby names, but there are lots of others set to take over for 2020… including names like Genesis, Dior and Adalee. 



Short & sweet

We’re also seeing a trend of names becoming shorter, in 2019 names with 4 letters becoming the norm. Names like Luna, Mila, and Zaid are gaining ground and becoming popular options for 2020. 


Up and coming

According to Nameberry, the trending names for 2020 are:

  • Boys:  Austin, Alva, Acacius, Tate, and Diego
  • Girls: Adah, Reese, Mika, Paisley, and Amina
  • Unisex: Ellis, Phoenix, Remy, Marlowe, and Shea

International inspiration 

2019 also saw a rise in international names, specifically more Scandinavian names like Bjorn, Gunnar and Thor. As Well as names like Axel, Luca, Kai, and Mateo are becoming more popular. 


It’s all a little bit royal

With lots of Royal events recently, there has been a rise in names associated with the English monarchy. The name Meghan increased 49% after the royal wedding. And there is also the prediction for more 2020 babies taking names like Archie and Eugenie.


Nicknames to full names

Continuing with the trend of short names, and also a bit of a trend back in the 80’s, parents are returning to use nicknames as full names. According to recent reports, names like Izzy, Toni and Tori all saw big increases in 2019.

 

Winter is coming

Winter came and went with the final season of Game of Thrones, but has for sure, left a trail of memorabilia in the form of baby names. Aria is one of the fastest trending names and even Stark is proving more popular. 


Blast from the past

Netflixs are loving retro themed nostalgia and this is definitely been reflected in recent popular baby names. 

Names like Frank, Barbara and Ruth are on the rise as well as 90’s style pop names like Britany and Nicole
